An Altar Server assists and serves the Presiding Priest during Mass and other church liturgies. Anyone having made their First Communion and are comfortable with a public, non-speaking role at Mass, and willing and able to follow directions is encouraged to participate in this ministry. Servers are scheduled on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Servers are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the Mass for which they are scheduled to serve.
The Eucharistic Minister assists the Presiding Priest in distributing the Body & Blood of Christ to the faith community during the celebration of the Eucharist. Each member of the faith community who has celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation is a candidate to serve as an Eucharistic Minister. Ministers are assigned on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Eucharistic Ministers are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes before the Liturgy.
It is a great privilege and honor to offer the Body and Blood of our Savior to the people of God. Ministers distribute Communion weekly to the People of God who are homebound or in nursing homes. Any member of the faith community, 18 or older, who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation, is a candidate to be a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick. Training sessions are held as needed.
The Lector proclaims the Word of God during Mass and reads the Prayers of the Faithful. All members of the faith community who have celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation are eligible to proclaim the Word of God. Lectors are assigned on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Lectors arrive 15-20 minutes before the Liturgy.
The Hospitality Minister greets each person as they arrive at the entrance of our church. Often, this minister is the first person one sees upon entering the church, and we at St Columba and Immaculate Conception want each person to feel welcomed and at home in our faith community. Ministers keep the attendance count, assist with seating, any special needs a person may have, pass the offering basket during the Liturgy, and distributes the parish bulletin at the end of the Liturgy.
Following the Liturgy, ministers straighten the Church building, check for trash in pews, re-shelve hymnals and collect lost items. All members of the faith community who have been confirmed are eligible to be a Minister of Hospitality. Ministers are assigned on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Hospitality Ministers arrive 20 minutes before the Liturgy.
The Mass Coordinator helps enhance and oversee the integrity of the Sacred Liturgy. This ministry ensures that all of the preparations for the Liturgy are well prepared. They also ensure that all ministers are present and well prepared, which provides for a fuller participation of all to know, love and serve God. Coordinators are assigned on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Mass Coordinators are asked to arrive 30 min before the Liturgy.
Children's Liturgy of the Word Leaders instruct our young people, from preschool through first grade during part of the weekend Masses. This program offers the children an opportunity to hear the readings for the Sunday Liturgy in words they can understand and helps them to apply the Word of God to their life. They also receive their own Children’s Bulletin to bring back to church and share with their parents. Training sessions are held as needed. All members of the faith community, 21 or older, are eligible to be Leaders in this ministry. Youth in grades 6-12 and adults are eligible to be helpers in this ministry. Participation in the Safe Environment online course, and a background check are required for adults working with our youth. Leaders serve on a rotating schedule.
Our Gift Bearers are individuals or families who carry and present to the priest the gifts of the parish. Ministers are assigned on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Gift Bearers are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes before the Liturgy.
Cross Bearers lead the opening procession by carrying the Cross. Training sessions are held as needed. Ministers are assigned on a rotating schedule and must be accountable to the time when scheduled, or obtain a substitute. Cross Bearers are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes before the Liturgy.
